About Sidetrack — Tiny Trains for Your Desktop
Sidetrack is a small railway town that lives in a strip along the bottom or top of your desktop. It is an idle management game that runs alongside your work and not the other way around. The trains keep running, the cargo pays, and whenever you look down the town is going about its business. There is no timer and nothing can go wrong.
The railway layer is built around stations, cargo, and coins. Stations produce cargo, your trains carry it for coins. You can blow a train's whistle for extra coins, send it off as an express for double pay, or simply let the line run on its own. Progression comes from buying wagons for every cargo type, steam, diesel, and electric engines, faster track, more trains, longer platforms, and station lights for the night shift. The line is divided into five districts, the Countryside, the Harbour and its tides, the steep Mountain, the electric-only City, and the endless Grand Terminus, each with a chain of contracts that opens up the next.
The Museum is the long-term progression system. You can retire a finished district for tokens, perks, liveries, and decorations, then run it again, or take on a charter for a medal. Offline progress lets you close the game and return up to 16 hours later, or 72 hours with Museum perks, to collect what your trains earned. Focus blocks let you set a 15 to 90 minute session, get on with your work, and receive a bonus express when the block ends.
The town layer grows with your line. New stations and contracts bring new buildings, people, and cars, and vans take your deliveries to the shops that want them. There are sixteen regulars who ask for deliveries and favors, and some keep a shop you can look inside. There are things to find, sixteen rare trains, a missing cat on the rooftops, lost property, visitors for the guest book, and a photo album of the town to fill. You can name and paint your trains, ride along to fill a stamp book, fund town projects, and place forty decorations wherever you like.
The day and night cycle changes the look of the town, windows light up at dusk, the trains run with headlights, fireflies drift over the river, and now and then it rains. The desktop integration lets you choose the monitor, edge, height, and scale, and keep the strip on top or let other windows cover it. Night watch parks the line for the night and pays you for the time. The game has 78 achievements, a radio with each district's music, and a guide behind its own button.
Practical considerations for anyone downloading Sidetrack: the game is an idle desktop companion, not a full-screen management sim. It is designed to be visible at the edge of your screen and keep running while you do other things. The no-fail structure and offline progress means it is a good fit for short check-ins and long absences, the focus blocks are tied to the idle loop to your productivity sessions. The Museum and district contracts give the long-term progression a shape. The platform is not specified in the provided material, check the store page for the current supported platform list before downloading.
